PURCHASING CCTV
There are literally over 600 DVR brands worldwide.
Information as recent as February 2008, indicates many grey market DVR's are surfacing in Ontario. They have no markings, and are being sold very inexpensively. Early reports are of un-reliability with many of these units.
Just a side-bar on the topic of reliability recalled by a DAVIDEON member:
I remember a homicide case a couple of years ago. Detectives had seized a DVR from a small store because the owner couldn't get the footage off it. They had hours of video they wanted to view, so I set it up on one of their desks, where they could get comfortable and review it. The next day, one of the detectives came by, and asked if I could stop in and get it going again, because one of the guy's had bumped it. That minor bump had crashed the hard drive, and prevented any further viewing of the footage. We had the hard drive taken apart, but it was beyond repair. The accused plead guilty in the meantime, and it never became an issue.
With so many options available, it can be a daunting task to make an informed choice.
With our background training and experience as an end user, we are in an excellent position to assist you with your quest for an appropriate system, and equally as important, to assist with the variable capture settings to configure your system with.
Once you have decided to purchase a CCTV system, the next step is to determine the purpose of each of the cameras. During a site survey, this understanding is crucial as it will affect where cameras are placed, and how many are required. Also during the site survey, it will be necessary to determine a minimum images-per-second for each camera, as well as noting any special lighting issues.
Prior to starting the whole process, it’s also important to have an understanding of problem systems, and the effects they can have.
So have a look at both of these additional sections for more detail.
NOTE: DAVIDEON has no connection to any security company, and offers un-biased evaluation of the CCTV equipment you are considering.
